I have been on a quest to learn to make very simple beaded beads and this provided the perfect opportunity. I stitched up a beaded bead using circular peyote to cover a wooden ball and I made an octahedron from 4mm beads and seed beads. Coming home from a dog walk one morning, I found a length of heavy gauge copper wire in the street in front of my house and decided to use it instead of searching for copper washers as I had planned. From the wire I made hammered loops. I also made the copper jump rings used to form the little bit of chain I used. All this was subjected to patina gel from Cool Tools and tumbled. In the necklace there is also a bead I made from a stack of pale green buttons. All these pieces were assembled to show off the pretty resin pendant made by Marcie.
Some copper work, the octahedron bead, the stack o'buttons bead
That octahedron beaded bead sure looks like a World Cup tribute bead!

ReplyDeleteColors, materials; beautiful. The avoidance of deliberate symmetry creates a spiritual and visual balance.
ReplyDeleteYou've been growing to this insight for several months-years.
A lovely celebration of women - strong yet feminine and natural.
It is beautiful, I love the soft green colour with the copper!
ReplyDeleteSerene and elegant~ beautiful design and combination of elements, and the long dangle for the focal is excellent. Love it.
ReplyDeletethat looks great. You have a wonderful sense of design.
ReplyDeleteLove the green and copper, and really like how your necklace follows a pattern but doesn't look like it (if that makes sense :-))
ReplyDeleteThe colors are so soothing, yet the copper warms the piece up just enough to make it really stand out -- and I just love the beaded and the stacked-button beads! You are most definitely way beyond "dabbling." Great piece!

I'm fairly certain that the copper wire literally fell off a truck. It was in the street, in front of the house, and had been run over enough that the plastic coating was coming off. It saved me a trip to the hardware store. In my little town (only about 16,000 people in the county and under 5,000 in town)the man at the hardware store is really confused by my purchases. One day it is 3 gauges of copper wire, the next it is a machete (for vine control), then I'm asking him about tiny steel parts which of course I don't use for their intended purpose. On top of it, I'm a Yankee in a very southern small town. The metal gods do provide!
ReplyDeleteWow, this is really beautiful! I love the soft green with copper, and I love the way you used the copper rings. Pretty!

Sounds like me, picking up pieces on a walk to use in my jewelry. I love to go to the hardware store and ask for something and they ALWAYS say, "What would you use it for" so they know where to send me. I always say I don't know what other people use it for, I'm using it in jewelry making. They just look at you funny.
ReplyDeleteLOVE this necklace. The stack o'buttons bead - inspirational.
